Yes, we know it’s only August, but it’s never too early to start getting ready for cold weather, and it’s much more enjoyable to work on your car when the weather is nice. Once the cold weather hits, if your car doesn’t start, you are in trouble! So here are some helpful hints that you can start taking advantage of now so that you and your vehicle will be ready for the cold Ohio winter.
Top off your engine oil, antifreeze, and windshield wiper fluid
Keeping all your fluids full is one of the most important steps you can take for your vehicle. Keeping the antifreeze levels full is vital for your car as it works to overcome the cold weather.
Have your brakes inspected
The last thing you want is for your brakes to go out with 6” of Ohio snow, sleet and ice on the roads. Make sure your brake pads are ready for the wear and tear of winter.
Check the tread and wear on all 4 tires
Maneuvering through slushy and poorly plowed roads is difficult enough when your tires are brand new. It is much more difficult, not to mention dangerous, when your tires are going bald. If you don’t know what to look for, stop in and have one of our experts check to see if new tires are a smart step towards getting ready for the coming snow.
Some additional steps you can take:
- Make sure your windshield wipers are in top condition
- Clean your battery posts
- Check your spark plug wires
